gruppo_change.jpgChange Institute was estabilished in 1992 with the goal to spread a method of training in individual communication based on the systemic point of view which was called systemic counselling.
This method was created and experimented by Silvana Quadrino and Giorgio Bert during their first counselling training in Italy concerning general medicine physicians (in particular health education programs, reducing smoke and alcohol abuse etc.) and with physicians and nurses working with patients suffering from aids.

At present the educational and scientific staff includes:
  • GIORGIO BERT, physician, former professor of medical semiotics  at the Turin University, in charge of the counselling and communication in medicine dept, editor of the La parola e la cura magazine published by Edizioni Change.
  • MAURO DOGLIO, philosophy professor, in charge of the Communication and educational dept., coordinator of Teaching Of Trainers Programs.
  • MANUELA OLIA, sociologist, in charge of the counselling communication society dept. (coordinator of the public and private companies training concerning institutional communication and coaching.
  • SILVANA QUADRINO, psychologist, pedagogist, systemic psycotherapist. She is in charge of the training project in the Change Institute, she deals with the social and health programs, realises and plans the educational material
  • MONICA FORNO, counsellor at the Neonatal Intensive Care Dept. of the Turin University and trainer in systemic counselling.
  • ALESSANDRA MATTIOLA, counsellor, sex therapist and trainer in systemic counselling, tutor of the three year course in counselling at the Change Institute.
  • ANNA MIRENZI, counsellor for teenagers and families in Turin, trainer in systemic counselling.

THE CHANGE INSTITUTE IS:

  • A systemic counselling school
    Change Institute is the first school in systemic counselling based in Europe and the first to have established a three year course in counselling in Italy in 1992 which fully qualifies to undertake a career in counselling, until then almost unknown in Italy. Change took part in the foundation of EAC (European Association for Counselling).
    Change has trained until now more than 150 counsellors, some of who participate in the training and  research programs of the Institute while others operate in the public or private fields (schools, hospitals, companies) etc.
  • A training company
    Change Institute develops training programs in the professional communication field and counselling skills addressed to all practitioners who feel the necessity to improve their communication  quality in order to improve their training qualities.
    The training programs are organized and run by the Change Institute for private and public companies, groups of practitioners, or these can be tailor made for health companies, local agencies, etc..
    In particular courses are organised for:
    • Health practitioners: physicians, paediatricians, midwives, physiotherapists, nurses  and other health practitioners
    • Educational practitioners: professional educators, teachers, trainers
    • Social workers
    • Counter services, pharmaceutical representatives.

SYSTEMIC COUNSELLING IN THE HEALTH FIELD

Change Institute is well known in Italy most of all for its training program in the health field.
Over the last 20 years CHANGE Institute’s scientific team has developed a method of training designed for communication in specific situations that health practitioners have to deal with and on objectives in health communication.
Change Institute training programs considers the different contests where the program takes place, the various patients typology, the training goals, the structure of the organisation, the different professionalism features, the ethic code of conduct.
Each course is tailored for each group, either in terms of educational material or practical class and utilises real experience of the participants.

The fields where Change Institute has been highly demanded are: rehab. Program, vaccination program, screening (feminine tumours, colon tumours, etc) consent to organs and tissues donation, first aid, abused people care, paediatric and neonatal, intensive therapy and intensive care, health education and changing of lifestyles.

Change Institute is a consulting partner for Dept for Work, Health and Social politics for the GENITORI PIU’ campaign of healt education for parents, and for the preconception counselling campaign PENSIAMOCI PRIMA for National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, taking care of the information and healt education materials and training material and interventions for healt professionals.

TRAINING LEVEL

A first level in training in the use of systemic counselling can be achieved by all practitioners (health practitioners, teachers) after one or two days of training - DAYS OF FIRST COUNSELLING APPROACH.

For people who want to reach a higher level of competence in counselling for professional reasons, for public and private companies who want to improve the quality of assistance by improving their communication skills, Change Institute organises  6 –8 day courses that are held in the Turin  Head Office in Via Ormea, 22 – or on demand in other places.

THE EDIZIONI CHANGE

The results of the experience and research of the educational and scientific board of Change Institute and other professional and experienced people that on a regular basis collaborate are published by the EDIZIONI CHANGE publishing company.

Besides the ground texts (FINESTRE series) and the methodological texts (INCROCI series), Change Institute publishes a bi-annual magazine, LA PAROLA E LA CURA, dedicated to in depth examination, remarks, experience, research, particularly significant themes and debates on health communication.

MEETING ACTIVITIES
